Point of care Ultrasound is the next step in diagnostic and therapeutic medicine and as Intensivists having POCUS skills in your arsenal improves patient care.
A few POCUS skills that can be learnt are USG Heart, Lungs, Abdomen, DVT, Vascular access, and Trans Cranial doppler. In North West, we are blessed to have multiple POCUS Supervisors and mentors, which makes the accreditation process a lot smoother.
In general the process of accreditation would require one to attend an approved course, perform a certain number of supervised and mentored scans, pass the triggered assessment and get accredited after paying the fee.
There are multiple ways of getting accreditation. Please find the links for the respective societies that you can get accredited with.
- Focused Intensive Care Echo(FICE) by Intensive Care society: ICS Heart Website
- Focused Acute Medicine Ultrasonography(FAMUS) by Society Of Acute Medicine: FAMUS modules( Lung/Abdomen/DVT/Vascular access)
- Focused Ultrasound in Intensive Care by Intensive Care Society(FUSIC) : FUSIC Modules(Lung/Abdomen/DVT/Vascular access/TOE/Hemodynamics)
